When we heard about Electric Girlswe knew that we had to share them with you. They are a new program in New Orleans (hopefully they'll expand soon) that focuses on teaching young girls various skills in electronics, programming, and engineering. Students are able to then use their new skills to create their own science and technology projects.
Electric Girls launched their Indiegogo campaign on August 1, and they are already over 80% funded.
One of the many great things about the program is their emphasis on peer mentorship. Electric Girls is committed to not only teaching awesome skills, but also to help build a community of young leaders and learners in STEM.
If you're lucky enough to live in New Orleans, Electric Girls takes place on Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., from September 12 to December 5 at the Idea Lab at St. Martin's Episcopal School in Metairie.
Now while we're a little sad (and sort of jealous) that this program is only in one location, we encourage everyone to spread the word about them. If you can't attend the program then click here to donate to the Electric Girls campaign to support other girls in STEM.
